Laser Vitreolysis (Treatment for Floaters)

What is Floater?

It is a symptom that something like dust or insects appears to be flying in the field of vision. It is caused by recognizing that "turbidity of the vitreous body" is reflected on the retina.

● It looks like a small "floating object" is flying in front of you.

● The shape may be thread-like, small grains or round rings (smoke-like), and the color may be black, white, or translucent.

● In the case of black spots, bleeding may occur, so appropriate measures are required.

● Even if you change your line of sight because you think it's an obstacle, the floating objects will move with you. Also, even if you don't usually care, if your eyes are in a certain position, you can move to near the center of your field of view. It may appear.

● Even if you rub your eyes, there is no change and it does not disappear at all.

● It is easy to see especially in bright places and white backgrounds (walls).

What is Laser Vitreolysis?

Laser Vitreolysis is a laser treatment designed to alleviate the symptoms of patients suffering from floater. Since it has few side effects, it can be considered as an option other than vitrectomy.

What kind of treatment is it?

After eye drop anesthesia and mydriasis, the doctor will irradiate the laser while confirming the location of the floater.
There is no pain at all. You will hear a clicking sound each time you irradiate the laser, but this is not a problem due to the characteristics of the machine.

What is the treatment effect?

The effectiveness of treatment depends on the type of floaters and how the patient feels. Please understand that this treatment does not completely cure floaters, but only reduces the symptoms to the point where they do not interfere with your daily life. Age-related floaters, known as Weiss rings, tend to be relatively effective. On the other hand, there are cases where the condition does not improve even after multiple treatments.

What about safety and side effects?

If the doctor is certified and trained to use this laser device, there are few side effects. Specific side effects include secondary cataracts, retinal hemorrhage, retinal detachment/tear, increased intraocular pressure, and uveitis. At our clinic, certified doctors perform the procedure.

Latest Laser Treatment: Floaters

Our clinic is equipped with the latest laser equipment to treat eye floaters.
By irradiating the vitreous opacity that is thought to be the cause of floaters with a laser, the opacity will disappear due to the tissue evaporation effect of the shock waves, which is expected to reduce the symptoms of floaters.

*Perception of effectiveness varies from person to person.
